In the West, menopause is generally something we don’t want to think or talk about.
The trouble is, we still see it as medical problem, like our body has gone wrong rather than it being a natural phase of our lives.
It really can feel like things have gone wrong if you are experiencing hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, anxiety, dryness or one of the other numerous symptoms attributed to going through the menopause.
✨In Chinese Medicine, this time of our lives is beautifully referred to as “The Second Spring”.
From a TCM perspective menopause is when the conception vessel energy (energy in the uterus)moves up to the Heart to provide wisdom.
✨Menopause is caused by the natural decrease in the Kidney Yin (Kidneys support reproduction, Yin is the cool moistening factor) causing an excess of Yang (hot factor).
Yin deficiency can lead to increased heat (hot flashes, night sweats) and overall dryness (skin aka wrinkles and vaginal dryness). Excess heat in the Heart meridian can cause other symptoms like anxiety, irritability and insomnia.
✨Factors that can increase menopause symptoms include: diet (sugar and alcohol), emotional stress, deficiencies, and genetics.
✨The good news is Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been used for thousands of years to decrease menopausal symptoms including hot flashes by moistening the body, balancing emotions, and balancing the body’s systems (yin & yang ☯️).
